Amazon introduced their first healthy living wrist band called Halo in fall 2020. The intention was it introduce healthy living habits into the customers lifestyle. It is meant to be worn while sleep and moving. The technology can track and analyze your daily routine and lifestyle as well as your habits and health.

The band includes a tracking module that uses stainless steel MIM parts with a PVD coating in 3 finishes; beat blast rose gold, beat blast black and brushed stainless steel. Each finish comes with its own inherent challenges based on the  vapor composition of the color. an activity tracker needs to be durable and lasting, waterproof and comfortable. With this in mind, testing and quality control became extremely important as the cosmetics could easily be compromised when balanced with the technical requirements.

 

The fabric band itself is made of a durable woven webbing from polyester, nylon and spandex with a DWR coating on the yarn.  The material and coating allow for the band to be colorfast, waterproof, washable, soft and most importantly comfortable for long term wear.

The silicone rubber sports band gives an even more durable option. It uses a soft touch finish strap and a brushed stainless steel clasp.

The CMF strategy was meant to include a large variety of CMF options and collaborations. We chose to narrow down to the 12 chosen options and test the market to see which options did the best.
